My personal experience, and that of observing training partners - is that breakthroughs in training, fitness or performance often are preceded by a period of struggle, doubt, fatigue or breakdown. And this is OK.

Three questions:

  • What success is evading you?
  • What aspect of what you are doing seems unattainable?
  • What is it that you want (and deep down you know you can do) that you can't seem to figure out how to do?

It's tough to know when to breakthrough. It can seem impossible that things could be different. However, they usually can be. And while it's true that we have limitations, it's also true that our perspective can limit us.

A success formula that can lead to a breakthrough?

  1. Rest.
  2. Contemplate.
  3. Pause.
  4. Apply intense focus and a massive effort.

If you think you can, you are probably right. Go for it.
