“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.”
The way I see it, if we are doing some exercise, whether it be a lot or a little - we are so far down a positive road compared with millions of our neighbors who can't, don't want to, or don't know how to take the first steps to a healthy lifestyle.
For a person who doesn't exercise, the thought of it can be so intimidating that it's easier to stay stuck than to get unstuck. Yet if you are reading this and have a healthy lifestyle you are already an ambassador for fitness.
I remember leaving a sports nutrition book on the coffee table at my Mother's house. It sat there unopened for two years and one day it got read. A few months and a food makeover complete and my Mother also added daily walks a habit she has kept up with. And at 73 she walks about 3 - 5 miles each day.
Who in your circle could use a little encouragement, an offer of a walk around the lake, a partner to try a yoga class or a gift of a book or some professional training?
Everyone wants to be healthy and fit. It's just harder for some folks to get started. Who is to say that you are not the best person to start the Fitness Revolution in your family, school, office or neighborhood?
My commitment for the day is this: "Today I will go out of my way to encourage two people I think want to get in shape but I know are having a hard time. I will not judge, suggest, nor shame anyone into action - but just make myself available, then listen and do the best I can to set a positive example".
