John Colver is the author of Fit By Nature. An award-winning athletic coach, mountain guide, and former competitive cyclist. His adventX outdoor training program, was named “Best Outdoor Fitness Program” by Seattle magazine.

SInce 2003, Colver has personally led over 2500 training sessions using the principles outlined in Fit by Nature. He has trained people ranging from age fourteen to eight nine, from aspiring mountaineers and marathoners to casual athletes to those readying themselves for military training as well as those recovering from illness. Among his students are athletes who run anywhere from 5-kilometer to 100-mile races, compete in cycling and triathlon events, and summit major peaks, including the seven summits.

It was as a teenager that Colver discovered his passion for outdoor recreation, endurance fitness training, and mountaineering. He has competed in more than three hundred road and track races, amassing fifty-two wins, including the Scottish 10-Mile Championship. He was a member of the Scottish National Cycling Team and raced throughout Europe. 

Colver served as a U.K. Parachute Regiment Officer and is a qualified military parachutist, Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness First Responder and 'Leave No Trace' Wilderness Ethics Instructor. In tandem with being an athletic coach, he enjoyed a fifteen year stint as a professional mountain climbing instructor and guide, working with leading guide companies, International Mountain Guides, Rainier Mountaineering and The American Alpine Institute. He has guided over one hundred summit climbs of Mount Rainier and led summit expeditions to Aconcagua, the tallest peak in South America, as well as to Mount McKinley (Denali), the tallest peak in North America. 

After completing formal training as a certified personal trainer and group fitness leader, Colver introduced outdoor fitness classes to leading athletic clubs and corporations throughout the greater Puget Sound region before creating his independent brand. Colver presented on outdoor fitness, adventure and wellness at companies, retailers and organizations such as Microsoft, Boeing, BECU, Patagonia, Nike, University of Washington, US Army, The American Lung Association, Seattle Fire Department and REI. He lives in Vancouver, Washington.
